Fluid Gas Desulfurization System Services

What is Fluid-Gas desulfurization (FGD)?

Fluid-gas desulfurization is a set of technologies used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO
2
) from exhaust flue gases of fossil-fuel power plants, and from the emissions of other sulfur oxide emitting processes.

What are Fluid Gas Desulfurization Systems?

  • Wet Scrubbers remove dust particles by capturing them in liquid droplets. The droplets are then collected, the liquid dissolving or absorbing the pollutant gases. Any droplets that are in the scrubber inlet gas must be separated from the outlet gas stream by means of another device referred to as a mist eliminator or entrainment separator (these terms are interchangeable). Also, the resultant scrubbing liquid must be treated prior to any ultimate discharge or being reused in the plant.
  • Spray Drying is a method of producing a dry powder from a liquid or slurry by rapidly drying with a hot gas. This is the preferred method of drying of many thermally-sensitive materials such as foods and pharmaceuticals. A consistent particle size distribution is a reason for spray drying some industrial products such as catalysts. Air is the heated drying medium; however, if the liquid is a flammable solvent such as ethanol or the product is oxygen-sensitive then nitrogen is used.

Servicing Fluid Gas Desulfurization Systems

*FGDS should be serviced annually or if there’s an emergency.

What Parts and Services Does PES Offer?

PES provides the following parts and services on FGD Systems.

  • Fabric Expansion Joints: Term used for non-metal expansion joints. They can either be made from various types of rubber or Teflon.
  • Pressure Expansion Joints: Normally made from rubber or metal. Usually used in piping systems where the pressure is higher.
  • NewCon Severe Duty Knife Gate Valves: Used in a “Slurry” situations where there are solids mixed with water.
  • Pinch Valves: A rubber tube that you would pinch from both sides to shut it off.
  • Hi-Build Coatings: Thicker paint coating then what people are used to (3-5 milliliter)
  • Industrial Paints: A high-performance coating capable of withstanding the elements better than a standard paint.
  • Rubber Repair Products– Two Component (A-B) so that the material can be mixed and applied on-site. Rubber normally has to vulcanized in special equipment using special chemicals.
  • Lined Rubber Parts: Pipe or other equipment and line it with rubber to protect it from corrosion or wear.
  • Abrasion Resistant Fiberglass Pipe and Header Systems: What’s primarily used in an FGD system. Fiberglass resists chemical attack and an inner liner to prevent wear.
  • Ball Mill Liners: prevents wear on the metal shell of the rotating equipment.

Here at PES, we can help you with all of your FGD needs in the Bryan/College Station and area and beyond. Contact us with the link below with any questions you may have!
